A: No, you may enroll as an individual. Once enrolled, CAI will send you a list of potential teammates to consider and will introduce you to them at your discretion. CAI’s award-winning accelerator training program will teach you how to build a team. DO NOT WAIT to complete your team before enrolling. Together, you and CAI will build the best team possible.
Q: Where do I find the list of inventions that are available for licensing in the challenge?
A: Once enrolled, CAI will provide teams with a list of featured inventions from which to choose.
Q: Do I need to pick an invention before enrolling?
A: No, you will get access to confidential information about featured inventions after you enroll. You may use this information to decide which invention to ultimately pursue. You may also change your mind and edit your choice during the challenge. DO NOT WAIT to pick an invention before enrolling. Together, you and CAI will select the invention that gives your team the best chance of success.
Q: Do I have to pick a featured invention from CAI’s list?
A: No, you may compete solely with your own invention or with another party’s invention to which you have access (e.g. an invention that is owned by the research institute in which you work). You may also select a featured invention in addition to or instead of the invention that you are entering in the contest. CAI can also help you to find an invention that fits your idea from its 120+ research partners.
Q: May I pick more than one invention to advance?
A: Yes, you may compete with as many inventions as you like. The best teams surround themselves with complementary intellectual property, sometimes including their own “third-party” inventions.
Q: May we change the Team Leader later in the challenge?
A: Yes, the Team Leader, whose name is on the Letter of Intent, should edit the form or simply notify CAI if a new Team Leader is to replace them. Team Leaders are the chief points of contact for CAI during the challenge and will receive the cash award, if named as a winner. However, Team Leaders won’t necessarily become CEOs of the startups, though they often do.

A: Yes, the Team Leader, whose name is on the Letter of Intent, should edit the form or simply notify CAI if the team wants to change its name. Teams often change their names when incorporating.
