During the research year of the 2-year fellowship program, she was also awarded the Joseph E Robert (JER), Jr. Fellowship for Pediatric Surgical Innovations. Dr. Blum’s research projects focused on utilizing artificial intelligence to assist in analyzing radiographic studies. She won top honors at the JER Academic Symposium both years.
She continues to pursue her interest in medical device innovations, particularly in bridging the gap between research and commercialization to improve patient care. Dr. Tulenko serves as CEO and Founder of Corvus Health, a global health workforce social enterprise that works to increase access to health workers throughout the world through a novel set of approaches including advisory services, HR management, team and workflow redesign, productivity and quality improvement, training, and retention. Corvus Health’s clients include governments, hospitals and health systems, medical and nursing schools, insurance companies, the World Bank, Tata Trusts, GE Healthcare, and private equity firms. Corvus Health’s achievements include assisting the government of Saudi Arabia with the nationalization of its health workforce, the design of the clinical team for the new hospitals of Ireland’s largest health insurer, and the design of the medical simulation lab for Honoris United University, North Africa’s largest private university system.
Dr. Tulenko served as Director of the US government’s flagship global health workforce project where she was co-Principal Investigator for the World Health Organization’s work to calculate the 18 million global health worker shortage. She has also served as Vice President, Health Systems Innovation, for IntraHealth International, a global health implementor and represented IntraHealth as an official delegate to the World Health Assembly. She served as coordinator of the World Bank’s regional workforce program, working directly with Ministries of Health, Education, and Finance to plan and implement national health workforce strategies. She has received a Rainer Arnhold Fellowship for innovation in global development, is listed in Women In Global Health’s list of 50 woman experts in Global Health Security; was named one of “300 Women Leaders in Global Health” by the Geneva Graduate Institute of Development Studies, and has published widely, including in the New York Times and Foreign Policy. Dr. Tulenko speaks widely and has served on expert panels for the WHO, the American Hospital Association, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Aspen Institute. She is an occasional health commentate or Fox Business News and the Chinese Global Television Network. She recently delivered the inaugural address for the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health Eckhert Fazen Health Workforce Lecture Series. Rand Brenner
